ADONXS - Wasted
At a songwriting camp in Czech Republic (2024), I co-wrote, produced, and mixed “Wasted” for ADONXS. Written on the very first day with Udo Mechels—before we’d even met—we immediately connected and captured a deeply personal story. About 90% of the song was finished that same day as a demo.
Client:
ADONXS / Warner Music
Objective:
Create a compelling, emotional pop track to compete in Czechia’s internal Eurovision selection
The Challenge
Entering a camp with strangers can be creatively challenging. There’s no guarantee of connection or shared vision. On day one, none of us had worked together before, and we were under tight deadlines to deliver personal songs strong enough for Eurovision consideration. Additionally, Eurovision’s high standards meant the song had to balance broad appeal with authentic storytelling, all while capturing ADONXS’s distinct artistic voice.
The Solution: Stem Mastering
We leaned into vulnerability and honesty from the start. By encouraging ADONXS to share a personal story, we quickly built trust and emotional depth into the song. ADONXS, Udo Mechels and I shaped those raw feelings into a orchestral, anthemic pop structure, while I focused on ensuring the production captured the intensity of the lyrics without losing its intimacy. Even though 90% of the song was drafted that first day, we carefully refined the arrangement and mix afterward, preserving the spontaneity and emotion of the demo while elevating the sound to meet Warner Music’s release standards.
The Result
“Wasted” went on to achieve second place in Czechia’s internal Eurovision selection. A strong testament to its emotional resonance and quality. Its later release as a Warner Music single gave ADONXS a wider audience and demonstrated his ability to deliver high-impact pop ballad with depth. The collaboration also forged lasting creative relationships, proving that even in high-pressure environments, authentic connection can drive exceptional results.
