Craft the perfect sound for each pop song, keeping his piano and vocals central to his sound
The Challenges
AEMS, a versatile artist known for seamlessly blending acoustic and electronic elements, was on a mission to perfect his signature sound while preserving the raw authenticity of his piano-driven tracks. The challenge lay in steering each song towards its ideal sonic destination, all the while ensuring that the production process complemented rather than overshadowed his remarkable songwriting talent.
The Solutions & Process
Our collaboration on AEMS’s project has been a deeply involved process focused on capturing the true spirit of his music:
- Recording Sessions: By having both MIDI and live piano recordings, we ensured flexibility in sound and editing, while also capturing the raw emotion of the moments he wrote his songs. Our vocal recording sessions were effective, with a focus on capturing not just the lead vocals, but also the intricate backings and harmonies.
- Vocal Emphasis: In vocal recording sessions, I took on the role of a guide and coach, ensuring AEMS’s vocal performances were captured perfectly while exploring vocal arrangements, backings, and harmonies.
- Production Workflow: I handled the majority of the production, continuously updating versions online, integrating AEMS’s feedback, and occasionally conducting live and online production sessions.
- Mix and Master: While I mixed most of the tracks, mastering was outsourced to ensure an unbiased final polish.
- Distribution Strategy: Recognizing the potential of AEMS’s work, I introduced him to Amber Music for distribution. This connection, leveraging ADA’s network, significantly upped the chances of playlist features, which paid off with support from heavy-hitters like Spotify’s New Music Friday.
The Results
Together with AEMS, we’ve crafted 7 pop songs that resonate with his artistic vision. By introducing him to Amber Music for distribution, part of ADA (Warner Benelux), we’ve increased his music’s visibility, leading to support from impactful Spotify playlists like New Music Friday.
